Student Success Specialist (Education)



Position: Student Success Specialist

Reports To: Associate Vice-President of Academic Affairs

Classification: Exempt

Schedule: Monday – Friday (Some evenings and weekends)

Job Summary:

The Student Success Specialist is a full-time, twelve-month position dedicated to advancing the academic persistence, retention, and graduation outcomes of Lane College students. The Specialist serves as a primary academic advisor for a caseload of students, providing proactive, strengths-based advisement that integrates academic planning, career exploration, and personal development. The Student Success Specialist also serves as an instructor for the College's General Studies RARE Seminar courses, fostering the development of essential college success skills, self-efficacy, and a sense of purpose among students. This position is instrumental in supporting Lane's efforts to increase retention and ensure the successful transition of students through their first sixty credit hours and on to completion of the appropriate course of study. The Student Success Specialist works collaboratively with faculty, staff, and administrators across campus to ensure that students are engaged, connected, and equipped with the resources needed to realize their full power of potential.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the assigned academic advisor for a caseload of students, assisting with course selection, degree planning, and academic progression.
  • Instruct sections of General Studies RARE Seminar courses (LCC 112, LCC 120, CPI 101, LCC 210) per academic term, integrating institutional learning outcomes and best practices in student success pedagogy.
  • Monitor academic performance, attendance, and course engagement for assigned students; implement targeted outreach and early interventions in collaboration with faculty and the retention team.
  • Facilitate individual and group advisement sessions that integrate academic, career, and personal development using tools such as the VitaNavis SuperStrong Assessment and individualized academic action plans.
  • Maintain accurate records of student contacts, progress, and advisement outcomes in institutional tracking systems.
  • Support the design and implementation of co-curricular programs that promote student engagement, personal development, and academic achievement.
  • Serve as a mentor and advocate for students, helping them navigate institutional policies, campus life, and available support resources.
  • Assist with new student onboarding, orientation, and course registration, including participation in summer bridge programming and pre-semester initiatives.
  • Contribute to institutional assessment efforts through data collection, reporting, and continuous improvement activities related to advisement and student success outcomes.

Participate in professional development and training on advisement, trauma-informed/healing-centered practices, student engagement strategies, and success coaching

Qualifications:

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in education, counseling, student affairs, or a related field required (Master's degree preferred).

Experience

  • At least one year of experience in academic advising, student support services, or related higher education roles.
  • Demonstrated commitment to supporting the academic and personal success of underrepresented, first-generation, and/or historically marginalized student populations.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and social media platforms
  • Experience with educational technology platforms, student information systems, and case management software preferred.
