Senior Associate, Sales and Use Tax (Finance)



Kroll seeks a Senior Associate, Sales and Use Tax to join our indirect tax team. The role involves sales and use tax research, compliance support, and preparation of memoranda for large-scale tax projects. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and able to work effectively in teams or independently. They should have a collaborative demeanor, a strong desire to learn, and intellectual curiosity.

Note: This position can be remote.

Day-to-Day responsibilities:

  • Support various aspects of sales and use tax compliance projects
  • Knowledge of Canadian VAT
  • Collaborate with team members to manage projects
  • Assist with the retrieval, validation, and reconciliation of audit data inputs
  • Support documentation retrieval and organization for sales and use tax audit defense
  • Assist with audit submissions, work papers, and memorandums
  • Identify potential tax saving opportunities
  • Participate in audit negotiation and presentation of data analysis and taxability research
  • Conduct data analysis and work paper preparation for reverse audit projects to ensure identification and recapture of refund opportunities
  • Stay current with state and local sales tax rules and regulations through internal training

Desired traits:

  • Minimum three years of experience with demonstrated progression of responsibilities in a combination of tax roles, preferably within a corporate/public accounting indirect tax environment.
  • Experience addressing sales tax issues in the energy, telecom, and e-commerce sectors.
  • Working knowledge of business and tax systems such as Oracle, SAP, Vertex O series, and Vertex Returns.
  • Proficiency with productivity software such as Alteryx and MS Office.
  • Excellent research and communication skills.
  • Ability to analyze data from ERP systems and reconcile trial balances to sales and use tax returns.
  • Experience providing audit support and conducting reverse audits.
  • Ability to draft filings, including refund claims, petitions for redetermination, and various other administrative responses.
  • Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail.
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field required.
  • CPA or CMI preferred.
  • Some travel required.
