Job Description Summary:
The Associate Portfolio Advisor works with the Senior Portfolio Advisor on the guardianship team to consistently deliver a high level of proactive client service, support, and investment management. This includes managing a small book of existing clients, analyzing investment themes and issues to communicate effectively with clients and internal partners, tracking trade activity from execution to settlement, researching and resolving account/operational investment discrepancies, analyzing and insuring accuracy of investment performance results. This position is critical to the confidence that our clients have in our abilities to manage their finances, and the appropriate person will understand the importance of accuracy and timeliness.

Major Duties:
• Manages investment activities for a growing set of fee revenue producing accounts, representing small to mid-sized guardianships and individual portfolios, with some managerial input.
• Work closely with the portfolio management and client service teams to deliver a consistently high level of proactive client service and partner support.
• Understand and support Portfolio Advisor's monthly workflow and provide investment-related assistance to other partners (e.g., administrators, wealth strategists, etc.).
• Ensure investments comply with specific state laws outlined in each state's Probate Act.
• Assists in development and recommendations of portfolios designed to achieve investment objectives for specific individual clients.
• Lead client meetings where investments are concerned.
• Present Northern Trust's investment philosophy effectively to clients, attorneys and judges.
• Research and resolve account/operational investment discrepancies.
• Developing an influential presence with the client facing team, clients, co-trustees, consultants, the bank's legal area and outside attorneys to ensure communication of client requirements and coordinate portfolio activity.
• Consistently demonstrates increasing proficiency with new investment strategies, tools and capabilities, and portfolio research and investment methodologies through regular contact and engagement with the National Investment Practice, their peers, and broader Wealth and Asset Management.
• Back up and monitor Portfolio Advisor's desk in their absence.
• Distribute investment research and portfolio construction information when and where appropriate.
• Provide backup to other Portfolio Advisors, Account Managers, etc., which could include opening accounts, collecting assets, paying bills, or other administrative support.
• Be a proactive contributor to the team.
• Monitor and take ownership of all compliance related duties and follow-up procedures, including consulting with Portfolio Advisors on deficiencies and communicating with clients to eliminate exceptions.
• Provides continuous feedback on areas for improvement to leadership on national initiatives, changes, and expectations.
• Adheres to National Investment Guidelines, feedback from the Regulatory Evaluation Validation (REV) peer review process and observes sound risk management practices.

Knowledge and Experience Requirements:

• Associate Portfolio Advisors should have a client servicing background with lead relationship management experience preferred. Candidates should have 2-3 years of investment and personal trust client servicing experience.
• Knowledge of investment products, services and terminology, usually obtained through on the job training or prior experience, are needed.
• Analytical and organizational skills are needed to meet deadlines and solve client or administrative projects.
• Excellent technical skills and adaptability are required.
• Undergraduate degree in business, finance, economics or equivalent relevant work experience highly preferred.
• A passion for the investment business and guardianship client base.

Salary Range:
$99,600 - 169,200 USD

Salary range is a good faith estimate of base pay. Northern Trust provides a comprehensive benefits package including retirement benefits (401k and pension), health and welfare benefits (medical, dental, vision, spending accounts and disability), paid time off, parental and caregiver leave, life & accident insurance, and other voluntary and well-being benefits. Northern Trust also provides a discretionary bonus program that may include an equity component.
