Job Purpose: Linde is seeking a Safety, Health, and Environmental (SH&E) Specialist to join its team, reporting to the LGUS East Region Associate Director. This position is based primarily at the Niagara Falls, NY location, which includes air separation and liquid hydrogen plants, a Steam Methane Reformer, the largest green hydrogen electrolyzer installed by Linde in the U.S., and distribution operations. The SH&E Specialist will also support the Northeastern Reliability Center (NERC) in Niagara Falls and designated on-site Standard Plants within the region. The Niagara Falls site is a key component of Linde's hydrogen and distribution network, and this role is critical in ensuring world-class standards for safety, health, environmental compliance, security, and emergency response. The specialist will also drive operational excellence while fostering a culture rooted in Linde's core values and safety practices. Scope: The SH&E Specialist applies expert-level knowledge of safety and environmental practices to improve personnel safety, process safety, distribution safety, and environmental compliance for the assigned locations. By fostering proactive leadership and intervention, this role ensures the safety of employees, contractors, drivers, and the protection of the surrounding communities and environment while maintaining compliance with all applicable regulations, standards, and Linde policies. The successful candidate will engage plant personnel, product vehicle drivers, contractors, and NERC management to ensure safe work practices are followed. This individual will also identify and correct potential safety, health, and environmental hazards and implement compliant work practices through inspections, audits, interactions, and presence in the field. Key Responsibilities: - Work collaboratively with Niagara Falls site management and NERC leadership to meet zero/zero performance goals in safety, health, and environmental. - Cultivate a working partnership with employees and contractors on-site to build a strong safety culture that prioritizes worker health and safety. - Identify opportunities to improve safety trends based on performance data and on-the-job observations, implementing corrective actions as needed. - Develop safety plans for major maintenance activities, including planned and unplanned turnarounds, collaborating with line management to ensure safe execution. - Provide support for all incident investigations, including Root Cause Analysis (RCA), reporting, and corrective actions. - Regularly review and manage compliance systems, ensuring tasks are completed on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis as required. - Assist in environmental permit compliance through sampling, inspections, reporting, and use of compliance management tools. - Monitor site-specific OSHA, EPA, and DOT requirements, along with company standards, ensuring regulatory compliance through proper documentation and proactive measures. - Facilitate training programs and conduct monthly safety meetings at assigned locations, delivering impactful presentations that improve employee awareness and adherence to best practices. - Provide technical expertise in OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM) and EPA Risk Management Program (RMP). - Engage directly with employees and drivers to address safety concerns and implement risk mitigation strategies. Required Qualifications: - Bachelor's Degree in Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field; equivalent experience will also be considered. - 3-5 years of safety, operations, or distribution experience within an industrial environment. - Proven experience with OSHA, EPA, and DOT compliance programs, including development and oversight of safety programs and regulatory reporting. - Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with employees and management at all levels. - Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment. - Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. - This position will operate in both office and field environments, requiring occasional travel (approximately 25% with some overnight stays). Preferred Qualifications: - Safety certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), OSHA 30, OSHA 10, or similar credentials. - Technical expertise in interpreting Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID). - Previous experience with distribution safety and DOT regulations, including daily interaction with drivers to address operational concerns. - Experience in managing regulatory requirements for environmental compliance, including EPA RMP and OSHA PSM standards.
