Machinist II (Manufacturing)



 

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

A Machinist II must have experience working with a variety of machines to cut, shape, and form metal components to precise specifications. This role requires a strong understanding of metal properties, machining techniques, and the ability to interpret technical drawings and blueprints.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Assist in Setup and Operation: Set up and operate a variety of machine tools including lathes, milling machines, grinders, and CNC equipment to produce metal parts and tools.
  2. Blueprint Interpretation: Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications to determine machining operations.
  3. Precision Machining: Perform precision machining operations to create sheet metal parts and components, ensuring accuracy and quality.
  4. Tool Maintenance: Maintain and repair machine tools and equipment, performing routine maintenance to ensure optimal performance.
  5. Maintain necessary production logs and records with accuracy.
  6. Safety Compliance: Follow all safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment. Report any safety concerns or incidents to the supervisor.
  7. Collaboration: Work closely with engineers and other team members to resolve technical issues and improve manufacturing processes.
  8. Cross train with other departments
  9. All other duties as assigned

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a machinist, preferably in a sheet metal fabrication environment.
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or apprenticeship in machining is preferred.

 

SKILLS:

  • Proficient in the setup and operation of various machine tools.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Excellent precision and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of metal properties and machining techniques.
  • Ability to use precision measuring instruments.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitude.
  • Basic computer skills for CNC programming and documentation.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 35 pounds, stand for long periods, and perform repetitive tasks.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Experience with CNC programming and operation.
  • Familiarity with CAD/CAM software.

SCOPE:

 

This position is responsible for producing quality work within the Machine Shop and work with limited supervision and direction.
