Dental Assistant (SBHC) (Finance)



Assists the Dentist in providing clinical and administrative support during the examination and treatment of pediatric patients. Prepares patients and treatment areas, ensures proper infection control, and provides oral health education. Maintains dental records, manages supplies, and supports high-quality patient care in alignment with Methodist Healthcare Ministries' Mission, Objectives, and Core Values.

Essential Duties:

  • Assist Dentist during examinations and treatments, primarily with pediatric patients.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality and complies with all federal and state health information privacy laws.
  • Performs Chart checks on scheduled patients 1 week in advance.
  • Checks lab cases are in 1 week in advance
  • Daily review and completion of task for assigned provider
  • Receives, prepares and dismisses patients.
  • Uses four and six-handed dentistry techniques to include passing instruments, retractions, and material preparation. Uses parallel and bisecting angle digital and panoramic radiographic techniques.
  • Sets up instruments and materials for all clinical procedures performed.
  • Obtains patient history of medications and medical conditions.
  • Performs PRAPARE on all exam patients. (Initial, periodic, emergency)
  • Charts existing dental conditions and treatments.
  • Presents treatment plans, consultations, consent forms and discusses follow up visits.
  • Schedules next visits
  • Takes and records vital signs. (height, weight, temperature, pulse ox, and blood pressure)
  • Provides oral health education such as brushing, flossing, care of prostheses, etc.
  • Takes impressions, pours models for all impressions to include space maintainers, fabricates athletic guards, and labels lab cases for those going to the main lab.
  • Fabricates temporary crowns, and bridge.
  • Occasionally places rubber dam.
  • Packs retraction cord.
  • Records, maintains log books, and scans into Z drive weekly/daily sterilization logs, radiology, MSDS, etc.
  • Disinfects and wraps environmental surfaces in the dental operatories.
  • Disinfects and sterilizes instruments, equipment and all office areas.
  • Calls and schedules any maintenance needed for dental and hygiene ops as well as schedules maintenance for compressor and EPE's for all x ray units
  • Stock dental operatories and maintains all materials
  • May triage dental emergencies.
  • Helps Hygienist with prevention program
  • Places monthly supply orders for dental and hygiene op, PPE order, prevention supply order, community budget order, and capital items to order
  • Performs other duties as assigned.;

Education/Experience:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and graduate of an accredited Dental Assistant Program and two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of OSHA standards, digital radiographs, and creation of CEREC crowns preferred.

Language Ability:

Ability to read and interpret documents. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other team members. Fluent in English. Bilingual in Spanish required.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply understanding to carry out instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with occasional or no variables.

Certificates and Licenses:

RDA Certified by the State of Texas and Dental Radiology certified required. CPR certified required.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have working knowledge of the Internet, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word processing software and Excel spreadsheet software.

Other:

Ability to drive and have access to a car; maintain current driver's license and auto liability insurance.

While performing the duties of this job, the team member is exposed to a dental office environment having direct contact with patients and clients. Position may necessitate bending, stooping, twisting, turning, walking, climbing step stools, reaching, kneeling, crouching, sitting and standing for periods of time.
