Autonomy Architect (Finance)



AUTONOMY ARCHITECT

As an Autonomy Architect here at Honeywell, you will own the design and development of autonomous systems. This specific role will be focused on integration, development and demonstration of autonomy technologies for aerial vehicle platforms. This dynamic role will be responsible for crafting and implementing multi-year research plans, developing, and supporting AI technologies for autonomous vehicle operations, including navigation, obstacle detection, etc.

The role includes pursuit of both government, commercial and internal funding for technology development, as well as leading the execution of the work with our global team of talented scientists and engineers. Your contributions will play a central role in the design, development, and deployment of autonomous aviation solutions, contributing to Honeywell's commitment to innovation and cutting-edge technology.

You will report directly to our manager of autonomy and AI research group, and you'll work out of our Deer Valley, Arizona location on a hybrid work schedule.

ABOUT OUR TEAM:

You'll join Honeywell's premier autonomy research team, specializing in AI/ML and computer vision solutions for aerospace platforms. We rapidly adapt research to solve mission-critical problems. Our team maintains funding from both won government proposals and internal business partnerships, serving commercial and defense markets. We're building Honeywell's core autonomy development framework and demonstration platforms that drive our technologyYOU MUST HAVE

  • Master's Degree or PhD from an accredited institution in a technical discipline such as robotics, aerospace engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum 10 years managing technical R&D and engineering programs for internal or external customers such as AFRL or DARPA
  • Expert in applied autonomous solutions for commercial or military aerospace systems (fixed wing aircraft, helicopters, UAVs, UAM)
  • Familiarity with commercial or military aviation operations
  • Experience integrating, deploying and demonstrating applied autonomous technologies using cameras, RADAR, GPS, IMUs and other related sensors
  • History of proposing and winning (>$1M) contracts with DARPA, AFRL or other United States government agencies
  • Ability to lead direct and indirect reports by influence
  • Must be a US Person due to contractual requirements

WE VALUE
  • Strong leadership and management skills
  • Experience with existing aviation and avionics technologies including FMS, autopilot, display
  • Knowledge of FAA and EASA aviation certification requirements
  • Experience deploying complex computer vision solutions on unmanned systems for autonomy applications such as automatic landing/takeoff, landmark navigation, visual odometry, optical flow, target tracking or detect and avoid
  • Deep experience, knowledge and publications in state-of-the-art research from top international conferences and journals in the area of robotics, computer vision and/or machine learning
  • Writing and winning government funded proposals, especially for AI, autonomy and computer vision
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Attention to detail and excellent problem-solving capability.

  • Lead the development of complex AI solutions to address specific business needs, ensuring scalability, efficiency, and robustness.
  • Drive Autonomy technology strategy development
  • Define and lead research into new and novel techniques for autonomy across aerospace applications
  • Coordinate across existing Honeywell teams to add autonomy capabilities (Flight Controls, Navigation, FMS)
  • Drive technology transitions and productization of key autonomy technologies to develop hardware, software, edge solution and integrate it onto key Aerospace applications including Commercial and Military aircraft, helicopters, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) and Urban air Mobility (UAM) platforms
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to AI engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning, innovation, and technical excellence.
