CDI Educator/Quality Auditor (Finance)



UC Health is hiring a full time CDI Educator/Quality Auditor for the Corporate Coding Services department

The CDI Educator/Quality Auditor will be responsible for onboarding of new CDI Specialists, and will provide one-on-one, virtual, and recorded clinical documentation and coding education to the CDI team, medical providers, leadership and other healthcare staff members. The CDI Educator/Quality Auditor will be responsible for creating and maintaining the CDS staff education database, creating and delivering formal and informal education, tracking compliance, responding to requests for education, and ensuring all education opportunities are available to the CDI department.

The CDI Educator/Quality Auditor uses clinical knowledge, code assignment, documentation requirements, and reimbursement methodologies to review the work of clinical documentation improvement specialists. The goal of the audit is to improve documentation and patient quality, and capture severity, acuity, and risk of mortality. Documented results will be used to track and trend the success of the overall program, provide educational follow up, and identify changes in medical practice that should be reflected in documentation. Targeted feedback will be provided to team members on a monthly cadence based upon audit findings.

  • Minimum Required: Associate's Degree - Nursing - ADN.
  • Preferred: Bachelor's Degree Nursing - BSN. | State of Ohio current RN licensure. |

  • In collaboration with the CDI team Supervisor, designs, implements, and maintains formal and informal educational materials, presentations and assessments to support physician documentation compliance.
  • Participates in the interview process and evaluation of CDS candidates, assisting CDS Supervisor in identifying the best candidates for hire. Plans and directs orientation for all new Clinical Documentation Specialists. Assesses new hires throughout onboarding and training process and communicates assessments to CDI leadership.
  • Develops and presents, as needed, education to providers to keep them up to date in documentation principles and concepts relative to their areas of practice (including new provider orientations). Develops materials for provider education presentations, tip sheets, pocket cards, and other tools as needed. Serves as mentor/coach for CDI Specialists who will also be delivering provider education and real time documentation support.
  • Develops, coordinates, and completes internal auditing activities to ensure compliance with documentation and coding practices. In collaboration with CDI Supervisor, analyzes provider performance measures and assists in identification of provider specific education needs related to CDI process and clinical documentation.
  • Performs a quantitative and qualitative review and analysis of health records and physician queries to ensure documentation is accurate, consistent, complete, and ensures assigned codes can be supported by documentation. Conducts chart reviews based on DRGs and site-specific trends to identify gaps in documentation and training opportunities.
  • Utilizes analysis of a variety of reports, data sets, and audits to assist in identifying gaps, root causes, and solutions for CDI Specialists and physician leadership. Provides audit findings to CDI Leadership to assist with development of action plans when opportunities for improvement are identified.
  • Assumes the role of the CDI Specialist, providing additional CDI support to the CDI team as needed (i.e., vacancies, increased patient volumes, vacations, medical leaves, other).
