Topeka Material Handler (Manufacturing)

POSITION STATEMENT:
The Material Handler & Shipping/Receiving Clerk will be responsible for overseeing all shipments received, verifying the materials against purchase orders. He or she will also be responsible for cross training in other shipping areas. In the completion of these duties, he or she will ensure accurate records of materials received and their efficient movement to other departments.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
Ability to read and write English.
Ability to work under pressure with minimal supervision.
Demonstrate basic math skills, such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
Competent communication skills.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Administrative and Business Skills:
File new purchase orders in open file.
Check bill of lading against material received, verifying quantity and material, as well as its delivery to Wieland.
Inspect products for damage. In the event of damage, do not sign bill of lading before noting damage on bill and having driver initial under notation.
Check in the shipping by comparing product received to purchase order. Record received quantity and date of its arrival on purchase order.
File purchase orders for completed shipments in closed file. Purchase orders not completely filled should remain in open file with quantities received recorded and dated.
Deliver material to proper departments.
Contact proper departments immediately upon arrival of hot shipments.
Mark incoming material with proper MSDS labels if applicable.
On site box truck shuttle movement
Technical Skills:
Unload incoming material.
Understand the systems of UPS department and be willing to perform the duties of that department, including assisting with banding, wrapping, and weighing of skids when needed.
Drive truck when needed.
Assist with loading and unloading of LTL shipments and deliveries.
Learn the procedures of the receiving area and be willing to perform such duties.
Forklift operation Certification meeting OSHA regulations.
Interpersonal Skills:
Demonstrate appropriate external customer-supplier relations when receiving materials, handling problem situations and discrepancies by recording them and notifying proper authorities (i.e. shipment deliverer).

Physical demands: This job position requires the physical ability to continuously lift 15-25 pounds and, occasionally lift 50 pounds. It also requires bending over to pick up items, and working in a standing position for the entire an 8-hour (occasionally 9-10 hours) shift schedule. Must be able to successfully complete the Wieland Designs Forklift Operator Training and Certification. Limited outdoor work as required.

Work environment: General environment has some noise produced from the forklift, moving items, and semi-tractor engines. It also contains small dust particles associated with a normal manufacturing operation.
