Job Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Designer to join our engineering team. In this dual-function role, you will not only lead the mechanical design of components and assemblies but also serve as a Drawing Checker, ensuring accuracy, quality, and compliance of design documentation. Your work will be critical in maintaining design integrity, enhancing manufacturability, and supporting cross-functional engineering teams. This person reports directly to the Engineering Drafting Supervisor.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Sr. Mechanical Designer (Primary Role):

  • Develop and refine complex mechanical designs using Siemens NX CAD software.
  • Create 3D models, detailed 2D drawings, and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
  • Collaborate closely with engineers and project teams to translate requirements into manufacturable designs that meet functional, cost, and manufacturing requirements.
  • Apply sound mechanical engineering practices, including material selection, GD&T, and tolerance stack-up analysis.
  • Execute design or integration of new components into existing installations under the guidance of senior engineering resources.
  • Develop and propose fits, tolerances, and design changes for engineering review.
  • Define and select components, assemblies, or systems meeting business standards and program/product requirements.
  • Modify existing BOMs and drawings to support product revisions or enhancements.
  • Assist engineers in preparing technical documentation for internal and external customers.
  • Process Engineering Work Requests, incorporating any necessary drawing or BOM updates.
  • Mentor and collaborate closely with Cooper's drafting resources to ensure accuracy and timely updates of new or revised drawings.
  • Execute, document, and communicate results of generated technical data.
  • Participate in teams addressing specific organizational initiatives.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Drawing Checking (Secondary Role):

  • Review engineering drawings and models for completeness, accuracy, and adherence to internal and industry standards.
  • Verify proper application of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and drawing conventions.
  • Check drawings for compliance with company drafting standards and regulatory requirements. Provide feedback and mentoring to junior designers to improve drawing quality and adherence to best practices.

Systems & Tools:

  • Utilize Siemens NX for all design and drafting activities.
  • Manage and track design documentation and BOMs using Siemens Teamcenter and SAP PLM.
  • Use Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for documentation, communication, and reporting.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • High School Diploma / GED from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 10-15 years of experience in product design, preferably with a background in compression and/or engines.
  • Strong work ethics and a collaborative mindset. The ideal candidate demonstrates reliability, accountability, and integrity in their work, and thrives in a team-oriented environment by actively contributing to group efforts and supporting colleagues.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Proficiency in Siemens NX or similar (Solid Works, Creo, Inventor) 3D CAD packages.
  • Strong understanding of industry standards, ASME B16.5 and AWS D1.1
  • Ability to read, revise, and create detailed drawings, assembly drawings as required.
  • Willingness to cross-train and learn other skills as needed.
  • Excellent organization skills and the ability to effectively manage multiple priorities.
