Job Summary:

The Truck Shop Safety Specialist is responsible for ensuring compliance with safety regulations and standards within the truck shop. This position involves conducting regular audits, inspections, and assessments to identify potential hazards, ensuring proper equipment maintenance, developing training programs for the truck shop staff, and promoting a safe working environment. Additionally, this position supports the Compliance Manager in investigating accidents in Topeka. 

 

Essential Position Functions: 

1. Perform regular audits of truck shop operations to ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies.

2. Inspect equipment, tools, and work areas to identify potential hazards and ensure they meet safety standards.

3. Maintain accurate records of audits, inspections, and safety assessments. Prepare detailed reports and recommendations for improvement. 

4. Develop and deliver safety training and guidance to truck shop personnel and ensure that all employees are aware of safety protocols and procedures.

5. Investigate accidents and incidents within the truck shop and auto accidents. Determine root causes and, alongside Human Resources and Management, implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence. 

6. Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations and stay current on changes in safety laws and standards. 

7. Conduct risk assessments to identify potential safety hazards and develop mitigation strategies. 

8. Work closely with truck shop management and staff to promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement. 

9. Administer safety programs and policies to ensure compliance with environmental health and safety regulations. 

10. Communicate safety information and concerns to employees, management, and other relevant stakeholders. 

11. Perform special projects and other related duties, as assigned. 

 

Education and Experience:

1. Some college or technical training/certificate or equivalent is required. 

2. Two to three years of safety regulations and oversight experience preferred. 

3. Minimum two years in an office environment with employee engagement. 

4. Safety/risk certifications/accreditations preferred.

5. OSHA30 certification or higher preferred.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

1. Must be able to communicate in English. 

2. Minimum one year of experience working with Excel, PowerPoint, and Database usage. 

 

Physical Demands and Working Conditions: 

1. Truck shop / office environment. OSHA regulated. 

2. Visual ability to identify hazards, read instructions, operate machines, and inspect products, labels or equipment. 

3. Must be able to bend, stretch, squat, kneel and climb.
