Your Impact

As a Field Service Technician (FST) at FMD, you'll be on the front lines of technical service and customer support. You'll install, maintain, and troubleshoot vital equipment such as diesel engines, control systems, cranes, elevators, and more. Whether you're working on a naval vessel or at a remote field site, your hands-on expertise and professionalism will ensure mission success.
What You'll Do
Core Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, repair, and maintain complex equipment independently or with minimal supervision
  • Plan and complete service work using sound judgment and technical skill
  • Occasionally perform shop-based duties including part inspections, machining, and testing
  • Lead by example, acting as a mentor and technical resource for junior technicians
Technical Duties
  • Maintain service documentation, including Service Reports and Condition Found Reports
  • Stay current on Engineering Change Orders and Service Information Letters
  • Provide customer equipment training and on-the-job training to fellow technicians
  • Troubleshoot remotely and provide escalation-level support when needed
Safety & Administration
  • Operate safely in accordance with company guidelines
  • Wear appropriate PPE and report all incidents promptly
  • Maintain accurate timecards, expense reports, and travel logs
  • Ensure proper care of company-issued tools, equipment, and vehicles
Customer Focus
  • Provide professional communication and status updates to customers
  • Complete service documentation and share with clients upon project completion
  • Strive for a "first-time fix" on all service calls
  • Maintain strong customer satisfaction scores
What You Bring
Qualifications
  • Education: High school diploma or GED required
  • Experience:
    • Associate degree in a technical discipline and 4+ years of military or relevant industry experience
    • OR 4+ years of military or industry experience with diesel engines, controls, or equivalent systems
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and diagnostic ability
  • Ability to read and interpret technical diagrams and blueprints
  • Knowledge of diesel/gas engine theory, PLC systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, and electronics preferred
  • Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and written/verbal English
  • Valid driver's license and ability to obtain/maintain a U.S. Passport

Security Note:
This role involves access to Unclassified Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information (NNPI), which is Not Releasable to Foreign Nationals (NOFORN). You must provide proof of U.S. Citizenship and cannot hold dual citizenship.
Physical Requirements
  • Regular standing, walking, climbing, crouching, and working in confined spaces
  • Ability to lift 35 lbs. and perform physically demanding tasks
  • Strong vision (including depth and color perception) and dexterity
