Assistant Controller (Biotech)



Position Summary: 

The Assistant Controller works under the guidance of and assists the controller in managing the oversight, preparation, analysis, and distribution of the Company's internal, parent and lender financial reporting.  Responsibilities will include accounting and other special projects assigned by executive management from time to time and are summarized below.

Essential Functions: 

  • Assist the controller in the direction of the accounting functions 
  • Assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, and adjustments
  • Collaborate closely with billing and accounts payable teams to ensure invoices, purchase orders, and payments are accurate and processed on time
  • Review payroll reports and coordinate with payroll staff to resolve any discrepancies and ensure timely, accurate compensation
  • Serve as a key accounting liaison with cross-functional teams (operations, payroll, human resources)
  • Review weekly payroll reports and coordinate with payroll staff to resolve any discrepancies and ensure timely, accurate compensation
  • Manage operational data and maintain data accuracy and integrity
  • Prevent inaccuracies in financial statements by setting up internal control systems and adopting proper policies for financial reporting
  • Assist in developing system controls for ensuring data integrity
  • Assist in developing proper operational, data documentation and troubleshooting procedures
  • Conduct various account reconciliation reviews and analysis
  • Assist in special projects as requested 

Minimum Requirements

  • 5-7 years of experience in accounting
  • Construction and Union experience is required 
  • Tax provision experience is preferred but not required
  • Bachelor's degree with an emphasis in accounting 

Competencies

Must be a highly organized self-starter with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, capable of thriving in a fast-paced, dynamic environment that values ownership and excellence. Strong communication skills are preferred. A bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance is required, along with proficiency in Excel and familiarity with other financial or construction-related software. Candidates should have 5 to 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, specifically within utilities, construction management, general contracting, or subcontracting. A solid understanding of the construction draw process is essential.

This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds.

The employee may be subject to one or more of the following atmospheric conditions that affect the respiratory system of the skin: fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, or poor ventilation.
