Automation & Intelligence - Director of Operations

SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS

The A&I Director of Operations is the on-site operational leader for an office or sub-regional geography responsible for day-to-day execution and delivery of A&I Division work associated with that office or sub-region, maximizing customer experience, employee well-being and engagement, growth, and profitability of the office or sub-region. The Director of Operations converts regional strategy into local results by engaging the local operational staff with project oversight, resource planning, and operational discipline. The Director of Operations will work closely with the Regional VP of Operations, Sales, Supply Chain, Finance and HR

MEASURES OF SUCCESS

  • Execution: Ensure effective oversight of project management teams by driving on-time, on-budget delivery of contracted scope, achieving targeted margin realization, and consistently enhancing customer experience through successful project execution and deliverable quality
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure project teams follow standard processes for project management and technical execution
  • Customer Feedback and Satisfaction: Achieve positive customer feedback post-delivery, measuring satisfaction with technical solutions, support, and collaboration
  • Employee well-being and engagement: Maintain a positive team environment that embraces individual ownership, adherence to standards, and continuous improvement

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support project status reviews as required with regional organizational leadership to communicate project health, risks, challenges, and opportunities
  • Engage with customers to establish and maintain relationships, foster good-will, resolve issues, and support sales activities
  • Manage financial and execution risks of the assigned project management teams and regular communication of risk and opportunity profiles across the project portfolio
  • Maintain a continuous understanding of the assigned project portfolio by leading regular project progress reviews, sub-regional operations updates, and project retrospectives
  • Ensure timely completion of projects through rigorous process, reporting and communication with delivery team
  • Ensure project profitability through scope management and support of change orders, when appropriate
  • Monitor and manage sub-regional materials risks in collaboration with the project managers, supply chain, engineering, manufacturing and field service using proper risk management planning
  • Monitor and enforce company standards of excellence, including safety, professionalism, preparedness, appearance, timeliness, etc., for all direct and indirect team members within the sub-region.
  • Support the Sales and Estimating department as needed, including sales visits support, participation in regional sales meetings, and customer engagement activities
  • Provide input to and alignment with regional strategic goals and process refinement and improvement initiatives
  • Actively participate in regional meetings for capacity planning and production planning meetings for scheduling / prioritization of work in the region
  • Drive cross-selling and repeat customer project sales through project managers and service teams
  • Participate in and support employee recruitment, selection, and onboarding, as well as discipline and termination processes when necessary
  • Direct office processes and procedural changes in conjunction with area supervisors/managers to improve throughput and accuracy.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

  • The Director of Operations reports to the Regional VP of Operations
  • The Director of Operations works directly with the Project Managers, Project Execution resources, Shop Manager, Field Managers and Technicians to ensure alignment across all disciplines.

QUALIFICATIONS

A four-year engineering or electrical degree is required. Plus, a minimum of 10+ years' experience in the automation industry and field service functions, with 5 years of experience specifically in the municipal Water & Wastewater industry. A proven track record of leadership and progressive project management responsibility is required. Excellent communications skills and the ability to build and constructively lead teams are essential.

Experience with sales and project estimation, project management, knowledge and understanding of the National Electric Code, UL 508A, UL 698A, and ability to read and interpret engineering plans and specifications is preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The ability to communicate orally with management and other co-workers is crucial. Regular use of the telephone and e-mail for communication is essential. Sitting for extended periods in front of a computer monitor is common. Hearing within normal ranges is necessary for communication with Field Service, other departments, and customers. Adequate vision is needed for using a computer monitor and document review.
WORK ENVIRONMENT

The job is performed both indoors and outdoors at Inframark A&I office locations and at customer sites. Activities include extended periods of sitting and regular work at a computer monitor.
TRAVEL

Up to 25% of travel may be required for Inframark office visits, team meetings, customer relations, Service oversight and Quality auditing.Inframark is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
