Temporary Environmental Technician (Hybrid - Butte, MT) (Finance)

Who are we looking for:

We are currently seeking Temporary Environmental Technicians to support our team during the busy season from approximately March through November . This role involves a variety of field-based tasks within the environmental consulting industry, including remediation construction oversight, environmental sampling, and related fieldwork.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in environmental fieldwork and be capable of supporting a diverse range of environmental and remediation projects. Responsibilities include oversight of contractors' activities, conducting field investigations, and managing project tasks with minimal supervision.

Candidates should demonstrate proficiency in construction oversight, environmental sampling methods, site investigation protocols, and remediation practices. Strong skills in data collection, equipment handling, and field documentation are essential.

We're looking for a detail-oriented, communicative, and self-motivated individual who thrives in dynamic field environments and can manage time effectively. A current 40-hour HAZWOPER certification is preferred.

Location: Butte, MT

Hours: Up to 55 hours a week

What you will be doing at Woodard & Curran:

  • Advanced tasks such as overseeing remediation activities, leading field investigations, and managing project tasks independently. Field supervision and documentation of work performed by remedial contractors and environmental service providers.
  • Provide assistance on environmental site investigation field work, including soil boring installation and sampling, groundwater monitoring, soil vapor surveys, storm water sampling, groundwater monitoring well drilling and well installation, soil and groundwater sampling, aquifer testing, data analysis, and map preparation at various properties.
  • Expertise in environmental sampling techniques and organizational skills.
  • Collect field data and documentation for environmental site assessment/remediation.
  • Coordinate and manage assigned project tasks.
  • Perform office activities including assistance with project planning, scheduling, subcontractor coordination, data compilation, work plan and report preparation.
  • Assist project managers and senior staff with assessment/monitoring and closure needs.
  • Maintain a safe work environment at all times, participate in safety training, and prepare and implement site safety plans.

What you will need to succeed:

  • 3-5+ years of previous environmental experience.
  • BS/BA in Geology, Environmental Science, or related degree or combination of education and /or industry experience in geology, environmental sciences, or related technical area equivalent to 4 years of training and experience.
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency in MS Office.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Attention to detail, organization abilities, and strong time management capabilities required.
  • Adherence to safety procedures.
  • Able to work in outdoor environments in different types of weather.
  • Flexibility to work outside of normal business hours, as required, and willingness to travel to project sites in Montana, Wyoming, New Mexico, and other states as needed. Approximately 15-30% overnight travel, occasional longer travel up to two weeks at a time.
  • 40-hour HAZWOPER training preferred

$24 - $36 an hour

This position's anticipated pay range is provided below; final non-exempt hourly pay will be dependent on experience level, as well as considering a % based geographic differential based on where the final candidate will be working. Geographic differentials are used to recognize and reflectthe cost of labor differences between geographic markets.
