Sr. Tax Analyst - Remote (Finance)

Job Overview:
This position is a role supporting the Director of Indirect Tax with activities including, but not limited to, the filing and review of monthly state and local sales and use tax returns, coordinating approval and initiating tax payments, preparing journal entries and account reconciliations, and determining use tax accruals. The position will also assist with indirect tax projects including but not limited to sales tax refund claim filings, sales tax exemption certificate issuance, and supporting the tax department with various projects on an ad hoc basis.

Job Responsibilities:

• (40%) Accurately complete and timely file applicable monthly state and local sales and use tax returns. Make appropriate and timely payments as required and maintain complete documentation and backup.
• (10%) Prepare accounting entries for the Company's fiscal and period closings.
• (10%) Prepare reconciliations monthly for assigned sales and use tax accounts.
• (10%) During a weekly review of use tax accruals, identify and research tax treatments that minimize tax liability through sound and informed application of tax laws and regulations.
• (10%) Issue sales tax exemption certificates for suppliers.
• (10%) Pull audit support backup in relation to indirect tax audits.
• (10%) Support members of the Corporate Tax Group with other tax-related projects, as assigned.

Job Requirements:

Education/ Certifications:

• Minimum 3 years of tax experience in a public accounting firm or in-house corporate tax experience.
• Bachelor's degree in accounting from an accredited college or university; CPA or advanced degree preferred.

Experience:

• Strong tax compliance background.
• Experience with researching taxability of products and services to substantiate a position and present it in an appropriate manner to others.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

• Strong organizational and analytical skills.
• Ability to handle multiple assignments in a dynamic, deadline-driven environment.
• Strong tax research and writing skills.
• Intermediate to advanced MS Excel skills required.
• Experience using analytical tools such as Alteryx is preferred.
• Demonstrated aptitude for working with multiple IT software tools.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build relationships throughout the UNFI organization and with external parties.
• Ability to take initiative while seeking appropriate mentorship.

Work Environment:

Remote Role:

• This position is classified as remote where the associate will perform remote work from their primary residence. Remote associates are welcome to work from the office but are not required to do so. While remote associates are not required to work from an office on a regular basis, they may be required to come to the office or other UNFI locations for necessary business reasons or if directed to do so by their manager.

Travel (minor):

• This position may require the associate to travel to company offices, distribution centers, or other locations for specific meetings or other business reasons.
