Business Development Director / Manager (Finance)



Position Description

Primary Purpose:
As a commercial representative of the largest natural gas Pipeline Company and 4th largest energy company in North America, the right candidate will represent the company's ideals both internally and externally. This position provides the opportunity to interact with senior management, lead negotiations with external customers, and strategically influence revenue decisions the company makes.
Job Responsibilities will include:

  • Develop and implement business development strategies
  • Originate and manage the life cycle development of projects to enhance the profitability of Kinder Morgan's Interstate Pipeline group, which may include commercial development, major capital expansions, and other project development activities.
  • Identify prospects, lead negotiations, and prepare commercial agreements with potential customers and/or counterparties.
  • Coordinate multi-discipline, cross-functional teams comprised of internal departments (including but not limited to Facilities Design, Engineering, Environmental, Land, Legal, Accounting, Marketing and Regulatory) to produce scopes of work, identify project risks, and produce cost estimates.
  • Evaluate and prepare economics for projects and management presentations. Present investment opportunities for approvals.
  • Conduct and participate with other team members in the negotiation of business transactions, and draft definitive commercial agreements for approved projects.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with new and/or existing customers and other key industry representatives.
  • Perform market and competitor analysis.
*Position may be filled at the Manager or Director level, depending on the experience and skillset of the successful candidate.

Position Requirements:
Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree (required); studies in Engineering, Business Administration, Marketing, Accounting, or Finance
  • Master's Degree (preferred)
Experience, Skills & Knowledge:
  • Greater than seven (7) years' experience in the energy industry, with specific experience in developing new business investment opportunities
  • Must be able to analyze all aspects of a natural gas business arrangement (technical, financial, contractual, legal, operational and marketing)
  • Must have well developed oral and written communication, interpersonal, negotiation, and presentation skills
  • Must have the ability to influence without authority by working with a wide variety of people, internally and externally, with tact, courtesy and professionalism while driving for positive results
  • Organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks are essential
  • Must be a problem solver with the ability to find resolutions
  • Must be self-motivated and capable of working with minimal supervision and/or direction
  • Must be flexible and able to work effectively in a team environment and consistently maintain a professional and respectful demeanor/attitude with co-workers, clients, vendors, and regulatory agencies
  • Willingness to travel, as needed
  • Significant experience and business contacts within the natural gas industry
  • Ultimate job level will be determined based on the successful candidates' skills, qualifications and experience
