Job Title: Associate Portfolio Advisor

Location: Chicago - "Hybrid"

Summary:

We are seeking a highly capable and motivated Associate Portfolio Advisor to join Northern's Global Family Office investment advisory team. This hybrid role combines the analytical rigor and execution skillset of a senior investment associate with the client-facing responsibilities of an emerging portfolio advisor. The ideal candidate will play a dual function: providing key support to senior portfolio advisors on complex discretionary investment relationships, while also beginning to manage their own relationships and fee-based client accounts under the firm's advisory platform.

This is a unique opportunity for a developing investment professional to deepen their exposure across asset classes, contribute meaningfully to client portfolio construction, and progressively step into a relationship management role within a sophisticated, multigenerational family office setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support portfolio advisors in the execution and oversight of complex client portfolios, including performance analysis, asset allocation, and manager implementation.
  • Begin managing a small number of fee-paying client relationships directly, with guidance and mentorship from senior advisors.
  • Translate market insights and investment research into actionable recommendations for both internal and client-facing purposes.
  • Collaborate with internal teams on portfolio operations, compliance, and client reporting to ensure accuracy and quality of service.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of professional experience in the investment management, wealth advisory, or financial services industry.
  • Strong foundational understanding of public and private markets, investment vehicles, and portfolio construction principles.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting or managing high-net-worth or institutional client relationships is strongly preferred.
  • Progress toward the CFA charter, MBA, or other relevant advanced degree/designation is preferred.
  • Exceptional analytical, communication, and organizational skills, with a strong commitment to personal and professional growth, client service and integrity.

Salary Range:
$99,600 - 169,200 USD

Salary range is a good faith estimate of base pay. Northern Trust provides a comprehensive benefits package including retirement benefits (401k and pension), health and welfare benefits (medical, dental, vision, spending accounts and disability), paid time off, parental and caregiver leave, life & accident insurance, and other voluntary and well-being benefits. Northern Trust also provides a discretionary bonus program that may include an equity component.
