Open Rank Clinical Faculty - Clerkship Director for Psychiatry (Finance)



Department: Clinical Sciences Salary: Commensurate with experience
Description:

This non-tenure track faculty physician position will serve as the Clerkship Director for Psychiatry, as well as provide direct patient care at the University of Houston College of Medicine Family Care Center. This position will report to the Chairperson of the Clinical Sciences and the Associate Dean of Medical Education.

Specific duties include the following:

Primary Responsibilities

Job Duties:
• Works with the other clerkship directors and LIC director to create, implement, and enhance the Longitudinal Integrated Clerkship experience, including participation in weekly planning meetings with the LIC team.
• Develops clerkship curriculum and teaching materials including the course syllabus, learning objectives, clerkship activities and requirements, and corresponding assessments in collaboration with the LIC team.
• Participates in planning, developing, and delivering clerkship didactics, including on-site presence during the designated academic half day.
• Works in collaboration with the Division Directors to recruit, develop, and retain Clinical Clerkship preceptors and sites to ensure effective clinical education experiences for all students.
• Assists with matching students to clerkship sites and addresses concerns as needed to ensure an effective learning environment.
• Assists in the development of the community of clinical preceptors across all phases of the curriculum.
• Participates in the assessment process and grading committee to complete final grade forms; monitors required clinical experiences (RCEs), grades H&Ps, assists in the creation and assessment of OSCEs, and provides mid-clerkship feedback and narrative assessment to students.
• Conducts workshops, seminars and courses for medical students, trainees, and faculty.
• Evaluates clerkship teaching faculty and teaching sites, including regular communication and site visits with preceptors.
• Evaluates all aspects of the clerkship and recommends and implements changes as appropriate.
• Participates in clinical duties in their specialty, including precepting medical students.
• Serves on College of Medicine curricular committees as assigned.
• Performs additional duties as assigned.

In-class instruction during the Behavioral Medicine Course
• Develop and deliver content on substance use disorders and personality disorders for the behavioral medicine course.
• Assist course directors with question selection for assessment of learning objectives and session objectives.
• Performs additional duties as assigned.

Clinical Mission
• Evaluate, treat, and consult on the behavioral health care of adult patients in the UH Family Care Center.
• Provide input for the development of behavioral health and other clinical protocols and guidelines.
• Contribute to quality improvement initiatives in UH Family Care Center.
• Collaborate with other medical and behavioral health providers at UH Family Care Center.
• Participate in community outreach activities.

Service Mission
• Serve on appropriate COM and University committees as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
• Medical Licensure in the State of Texas
• Medical degree from an accredited allopathic or osteopathic college of medicine
• Board certification in Psychiatry
• Experience documenting with an electronic medical record
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office

Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience teaching medical students and residents
• Experience contributing to quality improvement projects
• Experience implementing evidence-based approaches to care
• Bi-lingual in Spanish, Vietnamese, Arabic, or Chinese

Academic rank of Clinical Assistant Professor, Clinical Associate Professor and Clinical Professor will be assigned as appropriate.

Salary commensurate with academic achievements and experience.
