Job Overview
Responsible for facilitating the operations of a job shop repair facility, directing shop mechanics and machinists, and assisting in meeting the organization's financial goals. Responsibilities include customer communication, back-office support, managing processes, material management, problem-solving, and logistics. This is a management and leadership role.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Operations Supervisor demonstrates leadership in communicating business goals, programs, and processes for an area or business segment.
As an Operations Supervisor, you will:
- Utilize your experience or expertise to solve problems, develop and execute objectives for self and others, and influence short-term and some long-term business goals.
- Maintain care, custody, control, and safe operation and maintenance of a shop, equipment, and staff.
- Establish and sustain a culture that promotes a safe and positive work environment.
- Assure environmental, health, and safety compliance.
- Develop and implement procedures and systems for shop personnel to operate and maintain the shop safely and effectively.
- Maintain annual budget and manage shop expenditures appropriately.
- Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate an effective workforce; delegate and monitor work activities for safe and efficient facility operation.
- Hire, evaluate, and monitor work activities of contractors/subcontractors for maintenance and repair activities for facility equipment.
- Manage all aspects of customer order management, including: proposal development, risk management and mitigation, specification compliance, scope development, pricing, customer negotiations, customer communications, and issue resolution.
- Interface with Sales teams to develop commercial strategies and solutions that meet customer requirements and business goals.
- Meet revenue, profitability, utilization, and budget targets.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college preferred (or high school diploma/GED with at least 7 years of experience in a support or field engineering role).
- Minimum 3 years of experience in a management role.
- 2–5 years of experience in General Operations Support, Machine Shop Management, or Operations Management.
- Additional experience in industrial/utility/power plant systems is preferred.
- Ability to manage multiple projects/tasks.
- Ability to climb ladders and stairs.
- Ability to walk or sit for up to 8 hours continuously.
- Six Sigma certification is preferred.
- Ability to set and meet aggressive targets.
- Capable of identifying individual strengths to maximize team performance.
