Environmental Health and Safety - EHS Specialist (Finance)
The EHS Specialist will support the continuous development and execution of programs to ensure that Lakeside Books provides a safe working environment for all team members while meeting the OSHA standards and other federal, state, and local regulations. This position is responsible for mitigating safety hazards, driving proper ergonomics in work processes, correcting and preventing unsafe working conditions, coordinating sustainable performance, and continuous Health and Safety performance improvement and efficiency.
Responsibilities
Assist EHS manager in gathering data, taking samples, presenting reports, and assisting production managers (and safety advocates) in meeting safety and health requirements
Assist with in-plant communications and recordkeeping & organization
Provide technical support on EHS and compliance-related items
Drive the evolution of the organization's safety culture by ensuring that all business strategies and safety initiatives align with the organization's vision, mission, and goals
Foster a behavior-based program and encourage employee involvement
Support incident investigation and root cause analysis process

Facilitate implementation of safe work techniques, effective safety methods and processes, evaluating performance management, training, and regulatory compliance
Lead regularly scheduled safety audits, risk assessments, inspections, training, and meetings to determine the effectiveness of safety and accident prevention activities
Implement safety plans while ensuring that they are being followed daily
Conduct safety observation reports regularly, depending on the length of the project
Attend safety walks and inspections before or during each project to analyze safety risks
Educate employees on safety standards and expectations as well as safe machinery operation
Responsible for keeping records of safety-related incidents and recommendation/administration of corrective measures
Organizes safety training for staff of the organization regularly
Maintain knowledge of safety, health, and environmental regulations at all levels of government, including federal, state, and local, and possess the ability to evaluate, document, and report on compliance with policies, procedures, rules, and regulations to ensure operational compliance
Works hand-in-hand with Lakeside management to identify safety-related issues and also supervise adherence to safety rules
Qualifications
A BS in Environmental Health & Safety or a minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience
Ability to effectively support a large multi-site workforce
Ability to compile technical data and prepare technical and analytical reports
Skilled in communicating ideas and instructions clearly
Strong organization skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite applications
Individual must be a team player with the capability to operate successfully cross-functionally
Demonstrated ability to link and analyze plant operational metrics to financial performance
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
Capable of working independently and managing multiple priorities
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
